Moving Autistic Adults towards Independence
and Employment The ASSERT Programme is delivered over two
sites at Northampton and Wellingborough.
It provides vocational training for
adults (16+) across the autistic spectrum,
which aims to enhance independence and prepare
the individual for work, whether this be
in open employment, supported work or other
work opportunities within ASSERT
The NSA run courses suitable for parents/carers
and professionals. Our next block of courses
are in September 2008.
The Society was instrumental in establishing
Playschemes specifically for autistic children.
Initially, these could be run during the
long holidays but more recently they have
been expanded to include the Easter holiday
also. This service is now one of the core
activities of the Society and is funded by
general and designated funds raised specifically
for the project.
Each small donation received allows us to
bring an improvement to the quality of life
of those affected with the condition. Any
support you can give us by donating or fundraising
for us is invaluable and you can be assured
that all income the Society receives goes
directly to helping the local autistic community.
The word autism is now quite well known to
most people, even if the actual nature of
the condition may be less well understood.
In recent years many professionals have recognised
that there are many children who do not fit
the classic or complete picture of an autistic
child. A phrase, which is now more often
used, is "autistic spectrum".
