Playschemes
The NSA playschemes are committed to safeguarding
and promoting the welfare of children and
young people and expects all staff, play
Leaders, Play workers and volunteers
to share this commitment. The Society was instrumental in establishing
Playschemes specifically for autistic children.
Initially, these could be run during the
long holidays but more recently they have
been expanded to include the Easter holiday
also. This service is now one of the core
activities of the Society and is funded by
general and designated funds raised specifically
for the project. Each day caters for sixteen
children aged between 5-16 years old to enjoy
fun activities in a safe and secure environment.
Parents also benefit from a break from looking
after their autistic children as indeed do
the siblings. For many this facility is the
only opportunity for respite available to
them. Demand for this service consistently
outstrips supply.
Over 100 children regularly access this service.
We currently run two schemes over four days
at Easter, one to serve the north of the
county and another to serve the south and
central areas, in Northampton. This is repeated
in the summer holidays over a two week period.
All schemes cater for 16 children at each
session.
A completed Referral Form is required to
apply for the Playschemes and Saturday Club.
