Saturday Clubs (Autism) was set up in 1998 and is run by a group of parents of autistic children. This initiative arose out of recognition by parents that specialist facilities for autistic children were needed all year round, not simply during the school holidays. They organise two Saturday Activity Days per month (excluding August), catering for 16 children on any one Saturday. These currently run from WrennSpinneySpecialSchool in Kettering. In addition to securing new sources of funding and overseeing the administration of the schemes, the main focus of the parents committee is finding ways of expanding the schemes to meet the demand for places. Finding a suitable second venue to serve the centre and south of the county and difficulties over storage of equipment are problems they must first overcome. Funding for the Activity Days is mainly from BBC Children in Need.
